New General Promoter for Laity

The Master of Order, Fray Gerard TIMONER III, has appointed Fray Juan Ubaldo López Salamanca, as General Promoter of the Laity. He is the son of the Province of San Luis Bertrán of Colombia and succeeds Fray Rui Carlos Antunes & Almeida Lopes, who has just completed his term.

Fray Ubaldo was born in Bogotá (Colombia), entered the Order of Preachers in 2000, took the habit in the following year and made his first religious profession on February 2, 2002, to solemnly confirm it in 2006. He received the priestly ordination in July 2007.
He studied Public Accounting at the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University in Bogotá; He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sacred Theology from the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana de Medellín, a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy with an emphasis in Political and Economic Thought and a Master’s in Pedagogy from the Universidad Santo Tomás de Colombia.

He was a missionary in the Island of Aruba (Netherlands Antilles), Prior of the Convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán de Tunja, Master of Prenovices, Trustee of the Province. At the Universidad Santo Tomás de Colombia, he was Rector General, Administrative and Financial Vice Chancellor at the Headquarters of Villavicencio, professor of the Department of Humanities and the area of economic and administrative sciences and member of the research group in the line of Human Development attached to the Faculty of Economics through the Louis Joseph Lebret Center for Economics and Humanism Studies. He was President of the Network of Catholic Universities of Colombia.

“I assume the office of General Promoter of the Laity with the aim of continuing to encourage the young people and the fraternities that make up the Dominican laity, and those who wish to know and strengthen the charism and spirituality of the Order of Preachers at the service of the Church.”
